The Brewmasters Arrive in Halifax: The Brewing Process

Friday, March 18th, 2011

“Only the finest pure barley malt and select hops shall be used to brew our beer. It will always be brewed slowly, carefully, taking the time to get it right. When the beer is ready, it will be delivered fresh to wherever fine beer is sold.”

This is Alexander Keith’s brewing promise, and the very words that I reiterated to our new Brewmasters when they visited Halifax recently. In this video, I explain that providing consistent taste quality requires several tasting trials of each beer batch. No product leaves the brewery until it has been tasted by the brewer themselves. Hope you enjoy.

We Have a Match!

Friday, January 28th, 2011

With such small adjustments to be made to the trials in London, we made sure to do a second round of tasting while I was there. Based on our discussions and my feedback, Mark and his team had gone right back to work to try to get precisely the right match to Keith’s profile and thought they had corrected the minor things that needed to be changed.

This week I checked in on Mark and Peter in their home breweries as they work on perfecting brewing Keith’s with their teams.

The Brewmasters have been back at their home breweries for approximately a month. I have been checking in with them regularly throughout the process. So far, they are doing great and I have asked them to send through an update on their progress to share with you.

Beer Basics: Beer Styles & Ingredients

Wednesday, December 15th, 2010

As Brewmaster Emeritus, I am often asked many questions about Keith’s and beer in general - what ingredients are used, how beer is brewed, even the best way to serve beer.
To help answer some of the questions from our fans, I have put together a series of four videos about beer and of course, [...]

Les Maîtres-brasseurs arrivent en Nouvelle-Écosse – Deuxième partie

Monday, December 13th, 2010

The Daily Tasting Panel

Friday, May 29th, 2009

In one of my previous posts, I talked about the Keith’s Daily Tasting Panel . In this video, Scott and I review in more detail what goes into the daily tasting. Once Creston is accredited, Scott will also be completing this daily tasting to ensure that the Keith’s brewed in Creston BC tastes identical to the Keith’s brewed in Halifax.

The Keith’s Daily Tasting Panel

Wednesday, May 20th, 2009

People often ask me how we ensure every drop of Alexander Keith’s IPA is made consistently to the highest quality batch after batch. For one, we have an advanced quality control lab that checks analytical values of the beer as it is being brewed 24 hours a day.  For every batch, the lab completes over 150 checks on the ingredients and the beer in process.  However, it would not be Keith’s unless [...]

West Meets East at the Alexander Keith’s Nova Scotia Brewery

Monday, May 4th, 2009

It was with great pleasure that I welcomed Scott Stokes, the Columbia Brewery’s Brewmaster, to Halifax and started taking him through the Accreditation Process to brew Alexander Keith’s I.P.A. It is important that he understands not only the process of brewing Keith’s, but also the long standing relationship that Nova Scotia has with this beer. [...]
